Keeping Score: How Were Our 2016 Forecasts?

Segal Marco Advisors reviews how it fared in its forecasts for the global capital markets in 2016. Among the findings in our 2016 “scorecard”:

  • The U.S. stock market performed significantly better than we expected, but our forecast for strong results in emerging market stocks and underperformance in non-U.S. developed stock hit the mark.
  • We thought there would be little money to be made in U.S. core bonds, with better returns in emerging market bonds — and were right on both counts.
  • Hedge fund results were in line with our expectation of 4 percent to 6 percent over Treasury bills.
